One day, no cameras

Around the world, divers leave their cameras on the boat on the same day. For one dive they look at the sea, not at a screen, and bring back only one memory to the surface.

Why

Looking through a screen is not seeing

Today much of diving is lived from behind a camera. Getting into position, adjusting settings, watching the screen: each takes a share of attention away from the sea and gives it to the device.

Camera-Free Dive Day is not a ban but an invitation: one day a year, for a single dive, to see the sea with your own eyes only. It is the experience our founder Taylan Kırali described in "The Dive I Left Unfilmed", opened to the whole world.

For divers

How to take part

  1. Choose a host

Join one of the host dive centres on the map, or make a dive you plan yourself with your own buddy.

  2. Leave the camera on the boat

Camera, action cam and phone stay on the boat for the whole dive.

  3. Just look

Dive within your certification level and local rules, without hurrying. Pause, observe, notice.

  4. Bring back one memory

At the safety stop, choose the strongest moment of the dive. At the surface, write it in a single sentence and share it.

For dive centres

Become a host

  • Host centres are listed on the event map.
  • Rubelis provides an event kit with a poster, social media images, a pre-dive briefing script and a participation certificate template.
  • Each centre sets its own dive prices and planning. Rubelis charges centres nothing for the event.
  • Founding Instructors have priority to host in their region.

Rules

The only rule is safety

  • This is not a race or a challenge. Every dive is made within the participant's certification level, local regulations and standard safety procedures.
  • Equipment carried by a dive guide for safety or scientific work is exempt from this rule.
  • Participation is open to all certified divers; a Presence Diver certification is not required.

Sharing

Share your memory with #CameraFreeDiveDay. The sentences shared that day are brought together afterwards on a memory wall.

Questions

Does it cost anything?

Taking part in the event is free. The host centre's own prices apply to the dive itself.

Do I need to be a Presence Diver?

No. Any certified diver can take part.

Can I join freediving or snorkelling?

Yes. The idea is the same: no camera, just looking.

When does diver registration open?

Diver participation opens on this page once host centres are confirmed. Host applications are open now.
